She then graduated in Graphic Design and Visual Communication at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin in 1997.
She started her artistic career in Berlin first as an illustrator and then as an artist. She participated in the ‘open Werstätte’ Künstlerhaus Bethanien and realised a performance at the Chamisso Platz. In 1999, she worked as a designer at Studio Mendini.
She lives and works in Milan.
The pleasure of illustrating in the position of an artist lies in the freedom to translate thoughts, emotions, and visions into a visual language that is immediately and intuitively understandable. The motif of the woodcut is a personal experience of the artist: a head emerges from the water that covers the floor of a cave. From far, the silhouette of a woman with her dog is visible through an opening in the darkness. The drawing is mystical, full of symbols: hands, bushes, and flame-like shapes.
The setting is Capri, the enchanted island in the sparkling blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea, a place of legends and mysteries throughout time. Its steep cliffs that soar into the sky and the mysterious caves that lead deep into the earth seem to speak of a mystical and distant era. The ancient Greeks, who called this island "Capreia," believed that Capri was blessed by the gods themselves and that its peaks were watched over by Apollo and Zeus in the heavens.
The creation of the drawing for the woodcut, however, takes place in Milan. Here, other artists join in, wine bottles are opened, and the evening unfolds its own mystique as an echo of the motif, in which the artist is once again present with her dog.
Elena von Hessen, Kiel (Germania), ha frequentato il Louisenlund college nel 1987. Ha studiato storia dell’arte a Londra e al City and Guilds of London Art School (1989 – 1990).
Successivamente si è laureata in Graphic Design e comunicazione visiva alla Hochschule der Künste Berlin nel 1997.

Il piacere di illustrare nella posizione di artista sta nella libertà di tradurre pensieri, emozioni e visioni in un linguaggio visivo immediatamente e intuitivamente comprensibile. Il motivo della xilografia è un'esperienza personale dell'artista: una testa sporge dall'acqua che ricopre il pavimento di una grotta. Da lontano, la sagoma di una donna con il suo cane si affaccia da un'apertura nell'oscurità. Il disegno è mistico, carico di simboli: mani, cespugli e forme di fiamme.
L'ambientazione è Capri, l'isola incantata nel blu scintillante del Mar Tirreno, luogo di leggende e misteri da sempre. Le sue ripide scogliere che svettano nel cielo e le misteriose grotte che conducono all'interno della terra sembrano parlare di un tempo mistico e lontano. Gli antichi greci, che chiamavano quest'isola “Capreia”, credevano che Capri fosse benedetta dagli stessi dei e che le sue cime fossero sorvegliate da Apollo e Zeus nei cieli.
La realizzazione del disegno per la xilografia avviene però a Milano. Qui si aggiungono altri artisti, le bottiglie di vino si aprono e la sera sviluppa la propria mistica come eco del motivo, in cui l'artista è nuovamente presente con il suo cane.

Anschließend absolvierte sie ein Studium in Grafikdesign und visueller Kommunikation an der Hochschule der Künste Berlin, das sie 1997 abschloss.
Ihre künstlerische Laufbahn begann sie in Berlin – zunächst als Illustratorin, später als bildende Künstlerin. Sie nahm an den „Offenen Werkstätten“ im Künstlerhaus Bethanien teil und realisierte eine Performance am Chamisso-Platz. 1999 arbeitete sie als Designerin im Studio Mendini.
Heute lebt und arbeitet sie in Mailand.
Der Reiz des Illustrierens aus der Perspektive einer Künstlerin liegt in der Freiheit, Gedanken, Emotionen und Visionen in eine visuelle Sprache zu übersetzen, die unmittelbar und intuitiv verständlich ist.
Das Motiv des Holzschnitts geht auf eine persönliche Erfahrung der Künstlerin zurück: Ein Kopf ragt aus dem Wasser, das den Boden einer Höhle bedeckt. In der Ferne erscheint die Silhouette einer Frau mit ihrem Hund, die sich aus einer Öffnung in der Dunkelheit herausbeugt. Die Zeichnung wirkt mystisch, aufgeladen mit Symbolen: Hände, Büsche und flammenartige Formen.
Der Schauplatz ist Capri – die verzauberte Insel im schimmernden Blau des Tyrrhenischen Meers, seit jeher ein Ort voller Legenden und Geheimnisse. Ihre steilen Klippen, die in den Himmel ragen, und die geheimnisvollen Grotten, die ins Erdinnere führen, scheinen von einer fernen, mythischen Zeit zu erzählen. Die alten Griechen, die diese Insel „Capreia“ nannten, glaubten, Capri sei von den Göttern selbst gesegnet worden und seine Gipfel würden von Apollon und Zeus am Himmel bewacht.
Die Ausarbeitung der Zeichnung für den Holzschnitt fand jedoch in Mailand statt. Dort kamen weitere Künstler hinzu, Weinflaschen wurden geöffnet, und der Abend entwickelte seine eigene Mystik – als Echo des Motivs, in dem die Künstlerin erneut mit ihrem Hund auftaucht.
