Korean artist Eemyun Kang, who lives in Milan, explores this very tension, moving between her artistic practice, the family she cares for, and her adopted country, which she reflects on in the title My Italy. However, this title does not refer to the stereotypical, culturally idealized beauty of the country. Instead, it evokes an unexpected environment, permeated by the harsh wind that blows through the metropolitan region. Her contribution to the Xilo-Project is titled A Storm. The small parrots, which have been visiting her studio since the outbreak of the pandemic, have become an integral part of her artistic motif. Her expressionist print invites the audience to immerse themselves in its many layers and emotional states, leaving space for interpretation. Perhaps it is time to listen again.
