Celestino Russo was born in Belleville, U.S.A. in 1971. His investigation into the body and the limit began with his study at the Academy in Naples, years of intense collaborations with the ESC collective, a group capable of creating a series of participatory actions in which the process counts more than the object. In his research to date, the sculptural and pictorial medium are investigated in their possibility of giving body and material presence to concepts of limits.

From an edition to a free series with Celestino Russo, everything that leaves an impression becomes its print matrix and this applies to both application and removal. In practice, we are in the process of collage. Transparent paper and freely applied colours overlap on a xylographic printing plate, share a common path for a while and then take over the visual aspect. What was intended as an edition thus becomes an individual series whose final pieces share only the process.
This approach of free action describes Celestino's concept of art very well, in which the human element is brought to the fore. Artistic creation is both a construction and a deconstruction of the self; the creative process is not an ordinary pattern, but always a genuine questioning of its operation.

Il percorso da un'edizione a una serie libera con Celestino Russo, tutto ciò che lascia un'impronta diventa la sua matrice di stampa e questo vale sia per l'applicazione che per la rimozione. In pratica, ci troviamo nel processo del collage. Carta trasparente e colori applicati liberamente si sovrappongono su una lastra da stampa xilografica, condividono per un po' un percorso comune e poi prendono il sopravvento sull'aspetto visivo. Quella che era stata pensata come un'edizione diventa così una serie individuale i cui risultati condividono solo il processo.
Questo approccio di azione libera descrive molto bene il concetto di arte di Celestino, in cui l'elemento umano viene messo in primo piano. La creazione artistica è allo stesso tempo una costruzione e una decostruzione del sé; il processo creativo non è uno schema ordinario, ma sempre una genuina messa in discussione del suo operare.

Bis heute untersucht er in seiner künstlerischen Praxis das skulpturale und malerische Medium in ihrer Fähigkeit, den Begriffen von Grenze Körperlichkeit und materielle Präsenz zu verleihen.

Der Weg von einer Edition hin zu einer freien Serie mit Celestino Russo: Alles, was einen Abdruck hinterlässt, wird zu seiner Druckmatrix – das gilt sowohl für das Auftragen als auch für das Entfernen.
Tatsächlich befinden wir uns mitten im Prozess der Collage: Transparentpapier und frei aufgetragene Farben überlagern sich auf einer Holzschnittplatte, teilen eine Zeit lang denselben Weg und übernehmen schließlich die visuelle Führung.
Was zunächst als Edition gedacht war, verwandelt sich so in eine individuelle Serie, deren Ergebnisse nur noch durch den gemeinsamen Entstehungsprozess verbunden sind.
Dieser frei agierende Zugang beschreibt Celestinos Kunstverständnis sehr treffend: Der menschliche Aspekt steht im Zentrum. Künstlerisches Schaffen ist für ihn zugleich Aufbau und Dekonstruktion des Selbst – der kreative Prozess folgt keinem festgelegten Muster, sondern ist stets ein ehrliches Infragestellen des eigenen Tuns.
